The Natural Fibre Company is a specialist wool mill based in Cornwall close to the Devon border. We have 18 staff: eleven in production, and five in marketing and administration, with two directors also employed on management and marketing. We have outside, part time help with accountancy, information technology and the web site.  We are proud to say that we are aiming as far as possible to pay staff near to the Living Foundation living wage once their employment is confirmed following probation.

Since relocating to Cornwall in 2005 our turnover has increased year-on-year by around 15%. We have launched Blacker Yarns and established ourselves internationally as a supplier of high-quality yarn.  The holding company is called Blacker Sheep.   • Carding and Maintenance Technician (permanent/full time position) 

            Hours of working: 0700-1600, Monday-Friday. 

Reporting to the Carding Engineer/Mill Manager, the main purpose of this job is to take ownership for both the reactive and preventive maintenance, to develop and maintain the systems and processes necessary for managing preventive maintenance of all relevant process and support equipment on site. You will act as a stand-in carding engineer and provide process support to run the carding process as and when required.

To apply for this post you must have a minimum of 2 years experience in a production team (FMCG or similar), strong mechanical technical foundations, significant previous involvement with Preventative Maintenance Systems and Basic IT Skills (MS Office)

  • Mill Assistant 

           Hours of working:  0700-1600, Monday-Friday.

Reporting to the Front End Supervisor, the main purpose of this job is to be responsible for general front end cleaning and housekeeping, basic operational tasks and material handling. You will have a minimum of 2 years experience in a production team (FMCG or similar), an ability to investigate, understand and resolve issues quickly and efficiently, an eagerness to learn and a high attention to detail.

  • Finishing Operative (full time position)

            Hours of working:  0700-1600, Monday-Friday.

Ideally you will have some knowledge of textiles, be good with your hands, thrive in a busy environment and eager to learn. 

The main purpose of this role is to safely and efficiently operate all necessary equipment in order to process customer orders to the correct quality and specification. The role will include administrative tasks such as capturing all production related data in the correct format (either paper-based or electronic), maintain excellent housekeeping at all times, operate the various production machinery and carry out related tasks as necessary, specifically but not restricted to twisting, reeling, cone winding, washing, balling, labelling, banding and packaging.
