The Natural Fibre Company is a specialist wool mill based in Cornwall close to the Devon border. We have 18 staff: eleven in production, and five in marketing and administration, with two directors also employed on management and marketing. We have outside, part time help with accountancy, information technology and the web site.  We are proud to say that we are aiming as far as possible to pay staff near to the Living Foundation living wage once their employment is confirmed following probation.

Since relocating to Cornwall in 2005 our turnover has increased year-on-year by around 15%. We have launched Blacker Yarns and established ourselves internationally as a supplier of high-quality yarn.  The holding company is called Blacker Sheep. We are a value-driven company and enjoy sharing these values with customers and partners as well as our whole staff team.



  • Front End Supervisor (permanent/full time position)

           Hours of working: 0700-1600, Monday-Friday. 

In this role you will have responsibility for planning and handling the flow and storage of materials and processes to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the front-end of the mill from booking-in until carding.

Ideally you will have gained a minimum of 5 years experience in a production team (FMCG or similar), preferrably with supervisory experience. You will have an ability to investigate, understand and resolve issues quickly and efficiently; excellent foresight and planning skills; an eagerness to learn; strong communication skills; high attention to detail and a drive to develop quality work.

  • Finishing Operative (full time position)

            Hours of working:  0700-1600, Monday-Friday.


Ideally you will have some knowledge of textiles, be good with your hands, thrive in a busy environment and eager to learn. 

The main purpose of this role is to safely and efficiently operate all necessary equipment in order to process customer orders to the correct quality and specification. The role will include administrative tasks such as capturing all production related data in the correct format (either paper-based or electronic), maintain excellent housekeeping at all times, operate the various production machinery and carry out related tasks as necessary, specifically but not restricted to twisting, reeling, cone winding, washing, balling, labelling, banding and packaging.
