Le Courriqua is a family business based in Guernsey, Channel Islands. The idea to start a heritage knitwear brand developed from a pet flock of five sheep who were looking for a new home in 2024 and has now grown to a flock of 80. The knitwear is handcrafted with love and care by the owners on the island, providing great provenance.
We were delighted to scour and dry the first small batch of greasy fibre, adding in some Romney wool, to make up the weight for spinning, that is traceable back to the farm it was grown on, here in Cornwall. The combined fibre was then woollen spun into a 4-ply (2/12ysw) yarn and supplied as washed on cone. Using a whole garment knitting machine, Denise and her team created three core garments: a bounné, scarf and guernsey, with each item containing a special signature rib featuring the iconic Guernsey landmark, Fort Grey.
Founder and owner, Denise says: “NFC was one of those vital steps that made our business possible. Our first shearing was barely the minimum weight and probably wouldn’t have been accepted anywhere else because of that. However, as they say small is beautiful, and the yarn that they produced was soft, airy and creamy. We have just delivered our second batch of fleece to NFC, this time in person and it weighed in at 129kg. We had a tour of the mill, so now we understand the processes far more and have been able to build a relationship with the team. They are great at enabling businesses to scale, they appreciate that most start small and support that, but they can also manage the relationship as the brand grows.”
