Pointillist Hat - Op Art Shawl - Pointillist Cowl
We're fast approaching the launch of our 2017 limited edition birthday yarn, Blacker Brushwork, and the excitement is building! So many of our favourite bloggers and podcasters have been giving the yarn rave reviews and hope it's going to prove popular on launch day. Set your alarms for 8 am (GMT) on Thursday 28th September!
To accompany the launch we'll be offering five new free patterns designed by our very own Sonja and Katie, which will be released on Wednesday 27th September. We have two garments, a hat, a cowl and a shawl to share with you, so there's sure to be something to take your fancy.
Macaulay Cardigan - Bowmont Jumper
When Sonja first got her hands on Brushwork, she was inspired to knit cables, and the result is the gorgeous Bowmont Jumper. Constructed sideways from cuff to cuff, then picked up and knitted in the round from yoke to hem, this unusual drop-shoulder jumper is a challenging knit with a flattering and easy-to-wear result.
Katie, on the other hand, thought Brushwork would be ideal for stranded colourwork. She created a bold design for the Pointillist Hat, which comes in two sizes and offers loads of potential for playing with Brushwork's colour palette. She also used the same motif to design a cowl with slightly different colours. This oversized accessory is long enough to wrap around twice and is sure to keep you cosy all winter.
Sonja's second design with Brushwork is the graphic Op-Art Shawl, using simple lace and stripes in an elongated triangular shape. Although designed to be worked in two colours, you could easily adapt the pattern to use more if you're struggling to narrow down your favourites!
And finally Katie's also designed the Macaulay Cardigan, a classically fitted cardi that is knitted flat and seamed, with deep ribbed welts and stylish garter stitch 'piping'. Macaulay uses Brushwork at a loose and drapey gauge, so it could easily be substituted for any of our DK yarns. We'll be knitting a second sample in our Tamar DK.
Once published these patterns will all be eligible for taking part in our Blacker Refresh KAL, so if you haven't already cast on a project there's still plenty of time to join in and win prizes! Head over to our Ravelry group for all the details and to join the conversation. :-)
