A riot of colour for new yarns

A riot of colour for new yarns

25th May, 2012: We have been making some coloured yarns from dyed fleece for a new project!

One of our customers is planning a new range of tailor-made clothing using brightly coloured, tweedy yarns with little nepps of added colour.  So we have dyed white Jacob fleece and then spun it, adding the spots of colour at the time we blend.  The resulting yarns will be woven into narrow cloth by Stuart Gregory at Bovey Hand Weavers in Bovey Tracey, Devon.

We can do this at the end of a production batch on the carding machines, just before we clean and fettle the cards, so as not to permit the colour to contaminate other blends.  We have knitted up small samples of the yarns on our hand-cranked sock machine and they are looking very promising!

So we shall look forward to the final results in bright tailored tweed suits!
