Renee Callahan designs as East London Knit. This week she launched The Klee Collection, a collection of modern garments and accessories inspired by the work of Paul Klee. Renee designed these garments “for the knitter to enjoy both the process of knitting, with innovative constructions, as well as the product of their work, with wearable, beautiful garments.” We are so in love with the gorgeous garments in Renee’s collection that we wanted to take a little time to share the six new designs with you.
“Each design features unique geometric lace knitting inspired by the strange and wonderful shapes that run like a language through Klee’s work, providing interest and detail on extremely wearable garments. Selfish knitting at its best, this collection is intended to be worn and loved for years to come.”
Angelus Novus Cardigan and Shawl
“The Angelus Novus cardigan is an easy-to-wear cardigan with an innovative construction, both fun to knit and surprisingly quick. It begins with a garter-tab cast on at the lower back and grows up and around the body. It flatters many body types and can be worn with a casual comfort or as an elegant layer. Worn open, it has the effect of a waterfall front, or can be secured with a beautiful shawl pin or single snap closure.”
These gorgeous patterns were designed using our sumptuous Blacker Swan DK in the natural shade Stone. The Stone colourway is one of our natural shades. Merino is a matt white fibre, so we blend Andrez’s farm assured fibre with a small percentage of Black Blue-Faced Leicester. This adds a richness and subtlety to the colours. We think Renee’s designs would also look gorgeous in our Shetland, Gotland, or Lyonesse yarns.
Angel in the Making Cardigan and Shawl
“Angel in the Making is a seamless, round- yoked, light-weight sweater worked from the bottom up in a fingering/4-ply yarn. A contrast-colour band highlights the delicate lace in the yoke and the body features flattering garter stitch details along the sides.
The Angel in the Making Shawl is a wide triangular shawl designed to use two skeins of beautiful fingering/4 ply yarn. It begins with a garter-tab cast on and is worked in stockinette stitch until (almost) the end of the first skein. The lace border is then worked from the edges to the central mitred-diamond. Every right-side row of the border lace is charted in this pattern, making it easy to cross off each row as you go and creating addictive, just-one-more-row knitting.”
Twilight Flowers Cardigan and Fingerless Gloves
“This pullover is a top- down, saddle-shoulder construction with delicate eyelet details at the front neck and lace panels running down each sleeve.
The Twilight Flowers Mitts are a pair of fingerless mitts featuring the same lace panel down the back of each hand. Knit in a sport-weight wool, these are great transitional weather mitts, perfect for crisp evenings of Autumn.”
The Klee Collection is out now! We thoroughly recommend heading on over to Ravelry and getting your hands on this collection of sophisticated, modern knits: priced individually at £3.50 for the accessories and £5 for the garments. The whole collection can also be purchased for £15.
