The Natural Fibre Company spins wool in small quantities from flocks in Britain, France and Northern Europe.

It has been trading in Wales since 1991, but has recently relocated and expanded in a 10,000 square foot factory close to the Devon border at Launceston in Cornwall.

When the founder wanted to retire, the company was sold to environmentalist Sue Blacker, an expert on economic regeneration and a former investment analyst in the City of London.

Moving and renovating the equipment from Wales and adding plant from elsewhere meant a gap in production. The backlog in organic fibre will be the first to be processed.

Although Sue and her family have invested their own money in the Natural Fibre Company, keeping it going and upgrading it would not have been possible without funding from the European Union Objective 1 scheme in Cornwall which is one of the few locations in the UK where it is available.
