Placing a commission spinning order
This is not difficult, but if you have looked at the 'Your fibre' section, the possibilities in terms of combinations and finishes may make it hard for you to determine precisely what you want.
We suggest that new customers download our price list, excluding VAT, and get our terms of trade and guidance notes all of which have links at the bottom of this page. This will get you started. It is also important for you to decide what you are going to do with your yarn once it is processed or how you plan to sell it.
An order form is not included as a download because we have found that it is best to talk things through with customers, either at the mill or on the telephone.
How much will it cost to add value to your yarn?
It is difficult to calculate the precise cost of your finished order because we do not know how much your fleece will yield as this depends on its quality and condition and varies from one breed to another.
We have created a mini spreadsheet 'ready reckoner' tool so that you can calculate prices for processing your wool, mohair or alpaca. Please contact us and we will send you one.
Depending on the fibre and finish you choose, as a rough guide you can expect to get 1kg of knitting yarn for between £25-45, including VAT and carriage. A minimum order of 20kg, yielding an average 12-15kg of finished yarn, is likely to cost between £350-450.
If we get the weaving done for you, assume a cost of £1,000 for the total package which will produce 50 metres of cloth, so that's £20 per linear metre. All together this is enough to make 17-20 throws, up to 15 blankets or over 100 scarves. Blankets cost extra because they contain more yarn, but they can be cut and stitcherd to specific sizes.
Before an order form is accepted, you have to comply to our pesticide requirements. For environmental reasons we are unable to process fibre which has been treated with pesticides within three months of the date of shearing.
