Advice and information files for downloading
As a wool mill we do as much as we can to advise our suppliers and customers about adding value to their fleece and getting the best results from spinning their yarn. This page includes a number of advice and information files for downloading or printing.
If you are storing fleece before sending it to us for processing, remember that it will be preserved better if it is washed. Download the file advice on washing raw fleeces.
Whether you are interested in selling to us or sending us your fibre for processing, we recommend downloading the file sheep shearing and maintaining the quality of fleeces.
To find out more about washing hanks of yarn before knitting, download our advice on washing hanks of yarn and knitted goods. Precisely how you proceed may depend on whether the yarn is to be hand or machine knitted.
Those selling wool need to remember that they have to comply with the Weights and Measures (Packaged Goods) Regulations 2006. Balls of wool are usually 50, 100 or 200 grams and the weight sold has to fall within given tolerances.
For more details, download the file relating to the lengths of wool in a ball or hank. We have included here the essential advice and information files for downloading, but please contact us for additional advice. Additional queries may be answered in our Frequently Asked Questions pages.
