Commission Spinning

Turning fleece into high quality yarn was the aim of the Natural Fibre Company when Rose Elworthy started it in 1991, and what we call commission spinning remains the backbone of the business.

The success of the company is partly down to its skill in processing relatively small quantities, upwards of 20 kilograms. Most companies deal in tonnes.

We add value to your fleece, and when it is returned you can knit or weave it into whatever you want, keep it in the family or sell what you make in specialist local shops, county shows or farmers markets.

Increasingly, we are buying raw fleece and using it for our own products which are being sold on this web site under the name Blacker Designs.

Sometimes we blend fleeces from different breeds of sheep or mix them with alpaca, cashmere, mohair or silk.

If you click on Process in the menu under the words Spinning services, left, you should get a good idea of what happens to fleece when it arrives at the mill.
