Selling fleece to The Natural Fibre Company
Although the Natural Fibre Company is all about adding value to your raw fleece, we are also in the market for buying small amounts of high-quality fibre, and it may be possible for you to sell to us. The fleece we buy is either used for blending or making into into Blacker Yarns or Blacker Designs' products.
We are particularly interested in fine and coloured fibre and are happy both to assess samples sent to us and to discuss prices. Generally we pay a premium for quality and rarity, but can only buy fibre that has been totally free of pesticides for at least three months before shearing.
Different fleeces suit different purposes. Some sheep breeds do not produce wool of sufficiently high quality to be knitted into garments. We have a long-term project to develop more opportunities for coarser fibres and are are happy to discuss ideas.
To help you decide whether or not your fibre is suitable, download our file on Sheep shearing and maintaining the quality of fleece. When your fibre arrives at the mill, it is sorted and graded and the value per kilogram calculated on the net amount remaining.
The demands of production mean that sorting and grading cannot always be completed immediately, but once it is done we pay in full and send you a written assessment.
Most of the British clip must by law be purchased by the British Wool Marketing Board, but the relatively small quantities we buy are of little interest to them. For those who deal with the Wool Board, but also want to sell to us, a letter has been agreed with them that covers all the legal aspects.
